Everyone knows about AudioWizard: it's the ZenUI app that improves the quality of your smartphones audio output, through speakers or headset, by featuring multiple presets for music listening, movie watching, etc. With ASUS always flaunting SonicMaster technology and 5-magnet speaker design on the ZenFone series, I always thought AudioWizard was a little bit handicapped, with not being able to customize your own presets.

Handicapped no more: introducing AudioWizard 2.0.

Sporting a new look, AudioWizard 2.0 is currently available on two of ASUS' ZenFone lines: the Laser and Selfie. It's a major improvement from the previous AudioWizard, and I really hope it arrives on the other ZenFones as well.

The six preset modes have been reduced to five (Recording mode is now gone, maybe due to lack of a clearer purpose). With Smart mode being default, you'll readily notice the improved audio quality out of the box, especially when partnered with the standard ZenEar headset. What sounds a bit flat on other sources simply shines with vibrance and detail when used with Smart mode. Not sure if this mode is optimized specifically for ASUS' ZenEar accessories, since it does improve most of the headsets I try it out on.

Movie mode bumps up the low-end to give you a theater-level bass experience. I personally tried it to watch some action flicks on my phone, and it gives you a visceral experience with the ZenEar. It gets even better if you have headsets or headphones capable of surround sound.

Gaming mode enhances the sound effects of HD games. I don't play much anymore these days, but playing Asphalt 8 with Zenchan (I got owned , see his Asphalt 8 article here) and superdan really gets me into hardcore mode due to the improved audio. Nothing beats gaming with awesome sound.

On to my favorite mode: Music mode.  This mode makes music more detailed, engaging, and sometimes louder. It's my favorite mode because I listen to music a lot, and because it's the best mode to use the new Advanced Effect feature on.

As you can see here, I've cranked up the bass volume to the maximum. But this isn't because I'm that much of a basshead. The earphones are out of the jack. This is solely for the benefit of my Laser 5.5's speaker. Yup, you read that right. And since AudioWizard allows for different configurations for the speaker and the headset, you don't have to change a thing if you like your headset to have a different setting than the default; it automatically switches back and forth depending on whether the headset is plugged or not.

AudioWizard 2.0 allows you to fine-tune your speaker's sound quality. With bass set to max, I get a more balanced output from the speaker; the sound becomes a lot less tinny and I get a somewhat satisfying bass response. You can actually hear bass lines in EDM now.

You can also crank up the treble, but I don't really recommend it since the increase is too drastic. Turning on Dialog Enhancement would be better, if you like watching movies on loudspeakers (yes these settings are also available on Gaming, Movie and Vocal modes) for those whispery dialogues that are pretty hard to hear, even on max volume.

Of course, any sound enhancement wouldn't be complete without the equalizer. AudioWizard gives us a 5-band EQ that replaces the stock Android one. The adjustments they make sound similar enough, but it's important to mention that the AudioWizard EQ can adjust the output of your speakers as well. You can really get to fine-tune the speakers to your liking, and to me that really is the best feature (obviously, since I spent half this article praising it ).

So, do you like the new AudioWizard 2.0? Do you, like me, wish it also arrives for the other ZenFones in future updates? Sound off in the comments.

It might just make it. It seems like ASUS isn't done with the ZenFone 5 as of yet. ;)

By the way can I ask if the Audio Wizard 2.0 from ZenFone Selfie and Laser's equalizer works on bluetooth earphones and speaker?
Because the Audio Wizard from ZenFone 2 cant.

AudioWizard still can't work for Bluetooth, since it relies on native audio processing from the built-in digital to analog converter, something that won't work for Bluetooth headsets/speakers (they have their own DAC).
