After updating to the latest FOTA release below, the phone won't boot anymore when I force reboot by holding power button it boots to Android Recovery showing this texts
Android Recovery
Use volume up/down and power.
Can't load Android system. Your data may
be corrupt. If you continue to get this
message, you may need to perform a
factory data reset and erase all user
data stored on this device.
Try again
Factory data reset

I don't want to factory data reset and loose all my photo and other important files. What should I do, any advice?

【Model Name】
ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL)

【Release Date】
Since the server pushes update notice to different serial numbers by batches, it may take some days for you to receive the FOTA notice. Thanksfor your patience. You may tap “System updates” in[Settings] >[System] to check if there is new firmware available. Or, youcan also try to manually update firmware by referring to the following link.

【Release Note

  • Update Google security patch
  • Fixed APN editing issue
  • Fixed SBC BT glitching issue in developer option
  • Fix quit setting swiping issue in multiple windows
  • Optimized system stability

I think there is no other way than factory reset

• But I thought of an idea (I DON'T know if this works or not, SO BE PREPARED FOR THE RISKS THAT COME)
(And if you feel something bad will happen, you better not have to do my idea)
Try to update your firmware again via recovery mode by:
  1. Download the firmware update file first
  2. Change the file name to ""
  3. Move the file to the SD card
  4. Insert the SD card into your smartphone
  5. Boot into recovery mode
  6. Select "Apply update from sdcard"
  7. Select your firmware update file ("")

Please read:
If the problem is resolved, please save your important files at least to the SD Card or a safer place. So if a problem comes, your important files are safe

In other words, connect your phone to the computer and download the update file and move it to your phone and then do everything he said. However, I don't think the update file for the newest update is out yet so your gonna have to wait, I'm also waiting for the file so I can manually update my phone. But I'd best make sure I backup first

You have explained your mistake yourself. "forced reboot" when doing a firmware update is a big mistake. When the stuck time after the update is still under 1 hour, it's normal.

1. If your device won’t turn on at all, or is stuck in a startup loop, it may not have enough power.   Attach the power adapter to the device and plug it into a wall outlet.
2. Wipe cache partition. If you can't do it yourself, ask for help- wipe cache.
   2.1 Power off your zenfone.
2.2 Press and hold Volume Down + Power, and there will be Recovery Mode.
2.3 Power button to choose and Volume up/down to move.
2.4 Choose Wipe cache partition>yes (press the power button).
2.5 Rebot now>yes (press the power button).
3. If not, go to step 4.
4. Hold down both volume buttons and the power button about 20-30 seconds. It should reboot. It just freezes sometimes.
This is the only way to reset it.
5. If not, go to step 6.
6. Perform a factory reset.

Hi JacMan,

We would suggest that you refer to rbandziulyte's suggestion, or check with your local service center about this.

Thank you.
