After the last (21.40.0.1877) update I did a factory reset and gave me an error in the wiping cache. What can it be?

Are you able to enter into system ?

If not, i would suggest you to bring it to local service center for a check:

Do you mean that you can still use your phone normally
but you can not complete the cache partition wipe due to the error?
Did you use the factory data reset option in the recovery mode or in systemUI ?

I can use the phone, just could not complete the wipe cache partition. I used the recovery mode to do the factory reset.
Is there anything I can do to complete a factory reset?

No, i just used the recovery mode. I now use the phone normally and will not do the factory reset. I just have intentions to reformat when i know not return to have problems.

With the last update the phone was locked in the Asus logo because it gave this error and the only solution was to send it to the assistance.

I had same thing, go to ASUS official website, download the degrade to sd card, degrade it to lollipop, start from here, after finishing, download the next update "first marshmallow" version, when done, then do software update by the system,,,,,, 
Everything is supposed to be back to normal behavior 
I have got this issue, I neglected it, with last update my cellphone got stuck to boot screen,,,,,, 
I did the above solution then it is normally behaving right now.
